Leadership Program

Swimming Victoria's Leadership Beyond the Pool initiative is developed to assist athletes in preparing for life in, and after, sport.

Leadership Beyond the Pool provides professional development, leadership, support and education to Victoria’s National level athletes as part of the SV Swimmer Retention Initiative. The SV Swimmer Retention Initiative provides support to our Victorian athletes beyond traditional competition. Leadership Beyond the Pool assists athletes to embrace the transferrable life skills they develop through the sport of swimming such as commitment, perseverance, work ethic, team work, time management and the art of winning and losing, and apply those attributes successfully into career pursuits, study, and general life. The program supports athletes, who already have a solid grounding through sport, to become true leaders within the community and achieve every success in the workforce.

The Program consists of two main components:

1. Professional Development & Leadership Workshop Series covering topics such as:

Communicating & Public Speaking
Leadership
Nutrition
Networking
Finance
Professional Development & managing your brand
Athlete Welfare
Goal setting

2. Mentoring & Networking

In conjunction with a number of our supporting partners, athletes will have access to sport & business mentors to enhance the learning, development and networking opportunities offered through the program.

Expressing interest in Leadership Beyond the Pool will allow Swimming Victoria to provide you with more information about the program before enrolling. The program is flexible around the needs of the athletes so details including content, workshops, dates etc will be finalised in consultation with those athletes who have submitted an Expression of Interest. Expressing interest does not confirm your commitment to the program nor does it guarantee your selection.
