Sport Development

Swimming Victoria coordinates and provides a range of opportunities for athletes, coaches, officials and volunteer sport administrators for development.  In addition, through the various suite of development squads and programs, athletes and coaches are provided opportunities to train and compete locally, nationally and internationally.

Coaches and Teachers

Swimming Victoria is a registered Swimming Australia coaching course provider and an AUSTSWIM accredited teaching course provider. Candidates can gain their qualifications through a Swimming Victoria Course and can create a rewarding and dynamic career path in teaching or coaching swimming.

Teacher Training

Swimming Victoria delivers the AUSTSWIM Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety Certificate course for candidates wishing to teach. The AUSTSWIM Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety Certificate course is delivered by attendance at lectures and participation in practical activity sessions. The presentation of the course is complimented by use of a reference book and CD ROM.  The AUSTSWIM Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety certificate is a prerequisite for enrolment in Infant, Adult, Competitive Strokes and SWD extension courses.

Coaching Accreditation

Swimming Victoria is responsible for the delivery of accredited swimming coaching courses throughout Victoria.

Bronze Licence

This is the ‘club coach’ standard in Australia. A Bronze Coach has been trained to plan, conduct, evaluate and modify swimming programs that will enable swimmers to compete at club / district and State level competitions. The Bronze Coach will work with a wide range of ages and abilities within a club or squad environment.

Silver Licence

This is the ‘performance coach’ and is the first coaching level where ‘swimmer performance’ is evaluated. The Silver Coach must complete an advanced course covering the theoretical aspects of coaching and athlete performance. The Silver coach will have demonstrated the ability to coach swimmers competing at State and National age competitions.  Please contact Kirsty Greening to express interest in this course.

Coaching Swimmers with a Disability (CSWD) Course

Accredited Coaches of Swimmers with a Disability are required to hold Bronze Licence Accreditation prior to undertaking the training program. This ensures that all CSWD Training Program candidates already possess sound coaching competencies and experience and allows the program to focus specifically on developing competencies relevant to coaching of SWD including gaining competency in the following areas:

  • SAL Events, Structure and Requirements for Competition
  • Classification, Drugs and The Rules
  • Disability Specific Information
  • Coaching Management and Resources
  • Coaching Communication When Coaching SWD
  • Programming for Swimmers

Our next CSWD course will run depending on demand.  Please contact Kirsty Greening to express interest in this course.  Swimming personnel interested in organising the delivery of education and training programs should contact Kirsty Greening (Development Officer) for details of the conditions of delivery.
