PICSAR is a key program developed by VicHealth to coordinate various levels of activity across Victoria. This program provides organisations with the funding and support necessary to develop activities that increase physical activity among in-need community groups. With research and evidence supplied by VicHealth and the Centre of Multicultural Youth (CMY), Swimming Victoria (SV) has designed programs with the chief objective as being to promote participation in swimming throughout Victoria. The funding received through PICSAR’s state and regional grants enables Swimming Victoria to focus on swimming programs for 3 specific target community groups including:
Swimmers with Disability (SWD)
Indigenous Community (ISP)
Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) backgrounds and new arrival communities
The programs also include training and support information to assist SV in educating various sport centres, staff and coaches on how to accommodate these particular groups. This Inclusion Training will provide an overview of opportunities for people with a disability to participate in sport and be followed by training on inclusive coaching practices. Inclusion training will assist your swimming club to support people with a disability to be included in sport and recreation activities.
With the help of partner organisations SV will continue to pursue and deliver programs that promote change in policy and practice enhancing and influencing individuals and communities to support healthy lifestyles.
