Olympian Matson Lawson has capped off a breakthrough season by winning the President’s Trophy at Swimming Victoria’s night of nights at Lifeguards@200 in Port Melbourne earlier this month.
Penny Lawson accepted the award on Matson's behalf and was very proud of his achievement. She gave an insight into his career and provided an update on his Olympic preparations.
The Bill Slade Trophy, awarded to Victoria’s most outstanding Official of Year, was taken out by Joffre Charles who epitomised everything that an Official should be throughout the year.
“Being presented with the Bill Slade Trophy is one of my greatest honours; it is something that I am very proud of,” said Charles.
Young Tigersharks Coach Natalie Dobrunz took out the Youth Member of the Year award, while Traralgon’s Jane Mitchell was recognised with the Administrator of the Year award for her commitment to her Club and District.
In other awards young Wyndam swimmer, Ryland Brian, took out the Henry (Hicks) B Ive Trophy for an 11 & under male swimmer across all strokes.
"Attending the Annual Awards Eveing was an amazing experience. I feel honoured to have won the Henry (Hicks) B Ive Trophy this season. Thank you to my parents, coaches, Club and Swimming Victoria,” said Brian.
Melbourne Vicentre won both the male and female Victorian Premierships capping off a remarkable year for the club.
Swimming Victoria again incorporated its Awards Evening with the asctaVIC awards which added to the evening’s program. Melbourne Vicentre’s Ian Pope took out the Victorian Coach of the Year and Traralgon’s Brian Ford claimed another Victorian Country Coach of the Year award.
Over 100 guests attended on the night, sharing laughs and stories from the previous year whilst enjoying the company of fellow swimmers.
